DESCRIPTION
Tattoo is a collage of organic shapes intertwined with sharp sparks
of matter. This relationship calls to the pain inducing, yet transformative
experience of marking the body. Rather than the ritual aspect of marking
the body in service of a cultural identity or initiation, this piece represents
taking ownership of the body through spontaneity and self expression.
The isolated limbs become matrices for adornment and embellishment,
activating electric sparks in the brain. The cutting treatment of the flesh
communicates an inner understanding of pain and renewal. The vibrant
treatment enacts an exciting impulse of creative potential. A conversation
between permanence and destruction is highlighted with a surgical weaving
of a yellow thread, centering the body
