RAY ASKEW
Lesbian Jorts
acrylic on panel
30” x 30”
DESCRIPTION
Lesbian Jorts revisits the designs manufactured in the early 2000’s
for children assigned female at birth. This piece explores gender through
clothing and the use of stereotypical gender affiliated colors being a cause
of forced childhood identity. Revealing passion for the interaction between
pattern and memory, the process indulges in the past. Representing the ever
growing desire to present personal individuality, methods of palette mixing
and taping techniques create intricate illusions.
