DESCRIPTION
The Greatest is a tribute to The Cleveland Buckeyes Negro League
baseball team. The work displays a folded jersey and baseball hat emenating
a halo of the aura and passion that the team has left behind. The display
emulates the shadowboxes that jerseys are normally hung in after a player’s
retirement; The Buckeyes team won multiple Negro American League
championships and the 1945 Negro League World Series title, painting
this display memorializes their achievements and the team’s everlasting
legacy.

Nicole Alvarez is a painter who explores the otherworldly and the fantastical by combining elements of pop culture and digital collage in her work. She is currently studying at the Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, OH. Her work has been exhibited in Student Independent Exhibition 78 and 79, Reinberger Gallery, and Beyond the Borders, Alan Lipson Gallery, both at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
