Nadia Miller
Business Casual
repurposed necktie, cotton fabric, and cologne
15” x 9” x 10”
DESCRIPTION
Business Casual critiques gender roles in the workplace. Women are
often expected to “sit and look pretty,” being forced into the role of a sexual
object for the male gaze. They are limited in their careers and kept from
professional development and success. Women are expected to perform in
clerical roles and exist only for the benefit of the men around them. This piece
allows women to reclaim power in the workplace, while simultaneously
tearing down the capitalistic ladder, a dynamic shift, in which women
become the dominator. Here is a middle finger to gender conventions in the
workplace.
