Madison Hennessey
Swamped
oil on panel, batting, polyfil, cotton/spandex fabric
14” x 17”

DESCRIPTION
Swamped depicts an intimate scene of blood and murky water,
exploring the disgust and horror of the ever-changing female body. The
use of a swampy landscape mirrors and embraces the stigma of menstrual
bleeding. The figure within the painting stands securely in the swamp,
seemingly unconcerned with the blood running down her legs and filling her
boots. The scene empowers the figure to be confident in a natural state. The
painting is framed with a plush, pillow border that emphasizes the softness
and malleability in the simultaneously gross feminine scene.
