LAY ROGERS
“Fuck You!”
oil pastel and acrylic paint on paper
57” x 20”
DESCRIPTION
“Fuck You!” Whether it’s language or dress codes, it seems societyis always trying to control your means of self-expression. No matter what
we do, or how we do it, not everyone can be fully satisfied. Wearing
punk clothing in the corporate workplace, the drawn, cut-out figure and
speech bubble break the imposed boundaries and standards in a space that
enforces restriction. The piece critiques these structures, energetically and
unapologetically expressing the exact opposite of the stereotypical norms
and identity.

BIO
Hi, I’m Lay. I’m 21, and nothing has mattered more to me than authenticity. I love that I am a mosaic of interpretations I have of people I’ve experienced my whole life. I use these interpretations to constantly transform my own character into what I see fit. My work centers around being unapologetically you and never batting a lash at what others have to say. A result I’d die happy with, is my work teaching people how to embrace the cringe, embrace the weirdness, embrace the embarrassment. That’s what creates the most interesting people anyway, society is boring.
