Hoop Petticoat
borosilicate glass rod, recycled fabric from a skirt
15” x 15” x 22”

DESCRIPTION
Hoop Petticoat is a fragile and sharp glass structure, acting as a
callback to the history of women’s fashion and the physical pain that strict
beauty standards have caused. This work combines hard glass with soft
fabric, commenting on the discomfort of wearing hoop skirts, as well as the
delicate appearance of painful fashion. An ode to the women who endured
the physical burden of beauty norms and gender roles, the symbol of the
hoop skirt and petticoat is a reminder of a past where women were expected
to remain beautiful in the face of pain.
