Wrap Me Around/Wear My Warmth
sewn minky fabric
87” x 6”
DESCRIPTION
Wrap Me Around/Wear My Warmth is a handcrafted scarf composed of
24 nautical flags, spelling out the title of the piece. This work reassures and
promises the wearer everlasting comfort and warmth. The cool blues mimic
the refreshing and calming nature of the ocean. Each square has been sewn
from a soft minky fabric, inviting the viewer in with its gentle touch. The
message within the flag code is abstracted to others while worn, however
once it is purposefully unfolded and displayed, the message is revealed in
full.

BIO
Emze Bahney (they/them) is a multimedia artist in the Sculpture + Expanded Media major, making artwork that almost always has something to do with Lake Erie or nautical themes in general. They work primarily with fabrics, creating wearables and other soft forms, with a particular interest in duality as a concept. Their work often focus on the coexistence of opposites in the same subject, such as luxury & neglect, the divine good & the divine evil, as well as revealing & concealing identity, among other themes. Nautical culture is also very important to them, having grown up as a sailor on Lake Erie, now creating their artwork to navigate the complexities of that unique upbringing. If at any point you ask them what they’re thinking about, rest assured that they’re probably thinking about the Lake.
