BRIANNA FAIRBROTHER
38D
found bra, lace, ribbon, muslin, stained wood frame
13” x 15”
DESCRIPTION
38D dissects the bra as a symbol of womanhood, putting a restrictive
and decorative garment in its own delicately dressed constraints. The most
medieval and physically oppressing components of the bra’s architecture are
put at the forefront of the composition. Rather than hidden within the structure
itself, the work highlights the elements that are useless to its function and
comfortability. The bra’s parts are arranged in a way that mimics taxidermy
or surgery, hinting at how society upholds yet impedes upon femininity.
